Meeting someone’s immediate needs matters. A meal, a shower, and a warm coat can carry a person through a hard day. But at The Sparrow’s Nest, we also want to walk alongside our neighbors toward lasting change. That is the heart of our Breaking the Cycle classes.
What is Breaking the Cycle?
Breaking the Cycle is an educational program designed to address the root causes that keep people stuck in generational poverty. Classes focus on thinking patterns, behavioral challenges, and substance use, while giving participants practical tools to build a different future.
Participants:
- Set clear goals for their future
- Learn financial literacy and budgeting basics
- Build job readiness and employment skills
- Learn four key techniques for overcoming substance dependency and criminal behavior
- Create a personal Recovery Maintenance Plan to stay on track after graduation
200 graduates and counting
To date, 200 people have graduated from Breaking the Cycle. Each graduate represents a person who chose to show up, do the hard work, and believe that tomorrow could look different from yesterday. Many go on to find work, reconnect with family, and become encouragers for others who are just starting out.
Why relationships make the difference
We believe lives are changed through the power of God and through nurturing relationships. Our class leaders do more than teach. They cheer participants on, check in when life gets hard, and celebrate every step forward. Change is rarely a straight line, and no one should have to walk it alone.
Class schedule
Classes meet Mondays and Wednesdays, with two sessions to choose from:
- 10:30 am to 12 pm
- 1:15 pm to 2:45 pm
